REER Religious Education and Didactics and Teacher Training Electronic Journal is a publication of the Instituto de Ciencias Religiosas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso-Chile. The journal receives scientific material related to Religious Education, Specific Didactics, and Teacher Training and School Religious Teaching, favouring the broadcasting of original scientific research outcomes.
The journal receives collaborations of original articles resulting from scientific investigations and/or meaningful studies for the specific area of the journal. The journal accepts other kinds of contributions like revision articles, reviews, and case studies; however, these will not be considered original articles. REER reserves the right to publish or reject the material.
REER does not accept works that have been simultaneously sent to other national or international books or journals. Works will be subject to the revision and peer evaluation or ‘referee’—evaluators and academics who work in the same area of the author or authors of the article/s to be issued—without identification of the authors. Copies of the content of such opinions will be sent to the authors, although the names of the evaluators will not be revealed. Suggested modifications will be applied after common consent with the authors. Every two years, a list will be issued with the names of the evaluators ad hoc who collaborated during that period.
The publication of a work will automatically imply granting the author’s copyright to REER Religious Education and Didactics and Teacher Training Electronic Journal and the original work will not be returned to the author/s. The ideas and opinions expressed in the articles are the author’s own, and do not necessarily reflect the Publisher’s opinions. If requested by the author/s, a free digital PDF document will be sent with the issue number of the journal where the author’s or authors’ article has been published.
Arbitration Process of the articles presented to the journal.
The procedures for the approval and publication of the articles will involve the stages of reception, revision, peer evaluation, acceptance or rejection of the article, post-acceptance revision, galley proof, and offprint.
| 1. |
Reception of Articles. |
| 1.1. |
Articles will be received via e-mail [reer@biblioteca.ucv.cl] or via airmail [Revista REER. Instituto de Ciencias Religiosas, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. Errázuriz 2734, Valparaíso, Chile]. In both cases, the electronic formats must be enclosed [Word archive, diskette, or CD].
|
| 1.2. |
The articles received during the three months prior to the first half-yearly publication of the respective year will be subject to revision and to the following stages. The articles received after that period, will be postponed for the future edition. |
| 1.3. |
The articles received will be registered with a reference number along with the date of reception. By means of this register, the authors will be notified via e-mail of the reception of the articles, and will be able to obtain information about the process of revision. |
| 2. |
Publishing Revision. |
| 2.1. |
The editor will revise the formal aspects of the article according to the norms and regulations of publication-instruction for the authors. |
| 2.2. |
An article may be sent back to the author/s if the author/s fail to follow the norms and regulations of publication-instruction, which will stop the process of revision until all flaws are corrected. Authors will be informed about flaws in their articles via e-mail, as these will have to be corrected so that the article can be subject to arbitration again. |
| 2.3. |
Once the formal aspects have been accomplished, the article should be sent to the Publishing Committee, which will revise and decide if the article can be sent to external reviewers. |
| 2.4. |
The exclusion of an article will not necessarily imply that it is of poor quality, but perhaps that the subject matter is not appropriate. In this case, the author will be informed via e-mail. |
| 3. |
External review or peer review. |
| 3.1. |
The journal will have a list of national and international reviewers to carry out the peer review in the three thematic areas of the publication: Religious Education, Religious Education Didactics, and Teacher Training. |
| 3.2. |
The selection of external reviewers will be based on the scientific relevance and production shown in the specific areas of the journal. They will be incorporated by means of an invitation letter, along with a written agreement. The list of external reviewers will be updated and issued every two (2) years. |
| 3.3. |
The selection of reviewers for each work presented to the journal will be responsibility of the journal’s Editor, according to the content of the article. As far as possible, there will be two reviewers for each article, preferably a national and an international reviewer, in order to avoid conflict of interests. |
| 3.4. |
Articles successfully evaluated in the publishing revision stage will be sent to external revision, except for the ones received by means of an invitation. |
| 3.5. |
The articles will be sent to at least two reviewers of the ones selected (Double Blind Review System). The sending of articles to peer evaluators will be registered with the corresponding date, which will include the reference number along with the reception date. By means of this register, the authors will be notified via e-mail of the initiation of the process of revision and will be able to obtain information about the state of the process. |
| 3.6. |
The external revision of articles will last 15 to 25 days starting from the day of sending to peer evaluators. Apart form the article, external evaluators will receive a guideline to make judgments and recommendations about the article. |
| 3.7. |
Once the external revision period is over, the opinions of peer evaluators will be sent to the editor via e-mail and then sent to the author anonymously. |
| 3.8. |
The outcome of the external revision of the article will be expressed in a judgment which will contemplate recommendations to be accepted without modifications, accepted prior revision, or rejected. As a regulation of the Publishing Policy, the evaluators’ judgments will have to advise and not decide about the articles subject to arbitration. |
| 3.9. |
In order to accelerate the process of revision, e-mails will be used as a means of communication with the evaluators, taking into account security and confidence commitment criteria. |
| 4. |
Acceptance or rejection of the article. |
| 4.1. |
According to the reviewers’ reports, the editor will get in contact with the author/s of the article informing the decisions of acceptance, acceptance prior revision or correction, or rejection of the article. |
| 4.2. |
In the case of accepted articles, the date of acceptance will be explicitly recorded, and will be communicated to the author/s via e-mail. |
| 4.3. |
In the case of acceptance prior revision or correction, the editor will ask the author/s via e-mail the correction or modification of certain points in the article. Authors will have no more than 15 days to reply. Otherwise, it will be assumed that the author/s revoke their decision of issuing the article in the journal. |
| 4.4. |
In the case of rejected articles, the editor will send an e-mail to the author informing the resolution and the reasons for the rejection. |
| 4.5. |
In the case of accepted articles, the editor may propose a different format from the one proposed by the authors. |
| 5. |
Post acceptance revision. |
| 5.1. |
Once the article has been accepted, it will be corrected in terms of style and morpholinguistics. |
| 5.2. |
The authors will be able to check the modifications made by the style editors in the galley proof, and approve such modifications or suggest others. |
| 6. |
Galley Proof. |
| 6.1. |
The editor of the journal will send the author of the article the galley proof for its revision prior to the publication. |
| 6.2. |
Authors will have a maximum of 5 days for the revision, because the delay in the return of the galley proof may, at the same time, delay the publication of the article. Modifications of the structure of the accepted articles will not be allowed. |
| 7. |
Offprint. |
| 7.1. |
The editor will send the author a copy of the article in PDF format. The author may request, assuming the economic charge, the printing of the offprint in the moment of reception of the galley proof. |
